(How to wear our all time fav Breton striped shirt)

If there’s one piece that most of us probably have in our closets, it’s the classic Breton striped shirt.

The style was introduced in 1858 as the uniform for the French navy in Brittany. The original design featured 21 stripes, one for each of Napolean’s victories.

Did you know that?

Legendary designer Coco Chanel loved the look so much that she incorporated the Breton into her 1917 nautical collection.

Over time, inspired legions of famous stars followed her love for the stripes, including Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Edie Sedgwick, Alexa Chung and me of course.

I have been a big fan of the Breton stripe look for years. I mean let’s face it, it’s casual, easy to wear, cheap to buy and goes with just about anything.

Breton stripes have become a part of my daily uniform.

No matter how you will style it … with jeans, shorts, skirt you can’t go wrong with it.
